I believe humans do not have a destructive nature so much as they are oppositional one.
I read a post today from someone expressing their confusion at the contrast of expectations concerning appearance nowadays and in the early 1900s/war times (they did not specify the exact decade). This person mentioned that the dress expectations in periods of war were strictly conventional and classy, despite the harsh times they lived in and that they were always well groomed, etc etc. They then began to say something about the fact they were annoyed that in first world countries, people don’t take as much pride in their appearance as they did when times were tough. They thought that if everything nowadays is so easy and not in the chaos of war, that people ought to look tasteful and elegant.
Further speculation on this has led me to the belief that people are more oppositional in the world they live in, rather than just being plain old evil douchebags. This post is a prime example of my theory, as it outlines the person’s attitude in relation to their context. The person today will be able to wear tracksuit pants and have messy hair while the world is working brightly around them, and the person in harsh times will try their best to look stunning. Part of this relates to the change in context (as the latter example was years and a few wars later) but part of it I reckon, is because of the oppositional nature of a person.
Think about it. People will try to lok as if nothing’s wrong when everything is.
People make less effort when everything is ‘right’.
People burn down forests and build skyscrapers, and when their expectation is achieved, they plant trees.
They hunt animals, then try to save them.
People will torment a person to the point of suicide, and then mourn their loss.
Think about it.
